Student FAQ's

Moody Bible Institute will continue to encourage its students, staff, and faculty to get the Covid-19 vaccine, yet we will continue to give the responsibility of decision making whether to get vaccinated to each individual within our community.

All Chicago residents ages 12+ are eligible to receive the vaccine.

Information on how and where to be vaccinated can be found here.

The federal government is providing the vaccine free of charge to all people living in the United States.

There is no cost for the vaccine. However, vaccination providers can charge an administration fee for giving the shot that is reimbursed by the patient’s public or private insurance company or, for uninsured patients, by the Health Resources and Services Administration at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. No one can be denied a vaccine if they are unable to pay a vaccine administration fee. The administrative fees cannot be passed on to the patient in the form of a co-pay or deductible.

Yes. As a resident of Chicago living on or off-campus, you are eligible to receive the vaccine.

Moody accepts your vaccine, regardless of where you received it.

External guests are allowed on Moody’s Chicago campus. Please follow the same visitor process for external guests that was outlined pre-Covid-19, including having them sign in at a welcome desk.

External events are at full capacity on Moody’s Chicago campus. Please email eventcoordinator@moody.edu regarding all internal, student, and external events.

There is currently no capacity limits for event spaces. Please be aware that capacity limits may change based on Chicago’s COVID-19 guidelines.

Historical campus tours will be held on campus Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. -11 a.m. Please have guests email eventcoordinator@moody.edu to schedule a tour.

If you move off campus in the first week of the semester, your room and board will be refunded. However, you will need to pay tuition and fees. After the first week of classes, your room and board will not be adjusted.

The tuition grant does not apply to Moody Online classes.

The tuition grant applies to classes that count toward your degree, regardless of modality, as long as you are residing on campus.

If you live on campus, the Pell Grant is applied toward tuition. If you are not living on campus, the Pell Grant will directly reduce your tuition balance.

If you choose to leave, you can complete your hyflex classes online. Your room and board will not be prorated because the campus will still be open.

Students who do not live on campus and who choose to attend classes via Zoom pay tuition.

Here are the recommended items to bring with you when you return to campus:

• Digital thermometer to check your temperature if you are symptomatic
• Face masks
• Hand sanitizer for daily use
• Disinfectant cleaning supplies for your room

No, there is no requirement to be tested to return to campus.

Testing will be provided for Chicago residential students through Health Service for those who are symptomatic. Tests for symptomatic students may be obtained by going to the Chicago Health Service Office on ASC 2 (molecular rapid test by medical staff or antigen self-test kits to be available through ResLife front desks on weekends). 

Due to the increased accessibility to at-home tests and the State of Illinois rescinding the testing mandate, Moody Bible Institute will not offer on-campus testing through Northwestern Medicine on Culbertson 1, and community members will no longer be required to test weekly.

If you begin to feel sick, use the CDC’s self-checker and get tested as soon as possible.

While Moody no longer requires masks, wearing a mask indoors on campus is encouraged but not required. The Centers for Disease Control have issued a masking recommendation based on the level of community spread. Moody will continue to monitor the community spread in Chicago and Cook County and align its masking with CDC recommendations for community levels of spread. Individual students, staff and faculty can choose to wear a CDC-recommended high quality mask, regardless of the community level of spread.

At the beginning of the pandemic, Moody Bible Institute invested in installing more hand sanitizer stations throughout campus. This improvement will remain in place for the academic year.

The MBI community should also be mindful and wash their hands often, cover their coughs and sneezes, disinfect high-touch surfaces, and monitor their health daily, staying home if they feel unwell.

Thank you for continuing to respect one another as we seek to provide a more normal residential experience while still keeping our community healthy. It remains important for everyone at Moody to monitor yourself for COVID-19 symptoms, test when you feel sick and stay home to avoid exposing others if you are sick. MBI will continue to monitor the situation, review guidelines from Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) and the CDC, consult with on-campus stakeholders, and make adjustments as needed.

Chapel will return to in-person attendance Tuesday – Thursday.

All meals in the SDR have returned to normal operations.

F-1 visa holders can study anywhere in the world and maintain their immigration status if they are enrolled full time. International students must fill out the registration form at the beginning of the semester to confirm their location. Email ISO@moody.edu with questions.

Moody Bible Institute is place that generates social engagement with many different people, and given how prevalent the virus is, it can be difficult to identify the source and place of infection. Often someone contracts the virus off campus. In addition, the latest CDC guidance recommends limiting contact tracing to hospitals and high-risk group-living situations such as nursing homes. As a result, Moody Bible Institute will discontinue on-campus COVID-19 reporting and contact tracing.

Those who test positive for COVID-19 should visit the CDC’s website for the most up-to-date instructions on quarantine, isolation and safety measures.

For students living on-campus who test positive for COVID-19, the following is our sick student care Protocol:

1. Positive students will be required to quarantine in their room, off campus, or at home for five days (if quarantining in your room and a roommate is present, it is expected that you mask as much as possible for the safety of your roommate) and mask for additional five days as prescribed by the CDC.
2. Students should contact their roommate, a friend on the floor, or their RA to arrange for someone to pick up a meal from the SDR.
3. Students with moderate to severe cases of Covid-19 should contact Health Service so that we can determine how to best provide support and also should seek medical attention. On the fifth day after symptoms began, there is still moderate to severe symptoms, students will continue to quarantine for 10 days.
4. Sick students will be expected to initiate contact with the people that they have been in contact with since a day before the onset of symptoms.

Close Contact Protocol (Roommates and others exposed to someone with Covid)

1. Sick student who tests positive for Covid is responsible for contacting those that have been in contact with since the day before the onset of symptoms.
2. Close contacts (including roommates), per CDC guidance, are not required to quarantine, but rather must wear a mask for 10 days and test through a local pharmacy or Care provider on day five after exposure.
3. If symptoms develop, or if close contact tests positive, they will quarantine as directed through the Sick Student Care Protocol.

Roommates of Sick Students

1. Because the quarantine of sick students now occurs within the student’s own residence hall room, Dryer Hall is no longer open to house sick students.
2. Roommates of sick students should mask as much as possible in their room for their own health safety.
3. Roommates of students who are high risk or do not feel comfortable with a symptomatic student quarantining in their room should contact the Dean of Student Care and Concern for other living options during the quarantine period.
4. Other living alternatives a roommate of a symptomatic student may choose include
   1. Staying in the room of a friend on the floor
   2. Staying at a friend’s place off campus.
   3. Moving back home.
   4. Moving into a hotel room.

Any roommates choosing the above should contact his/her RA and the Dean of Student Care and Concern to inform them of your alternative living arrangement.

No. Due to how long it can take the virus to show up in your system, a negative test does not mean you won’t develop the infection later. Symptomatic individuals are required to isolate for 5 days from the onset of symptoms, in accordance with CDC guidance.

Students who have to isolate should contact a roommate, friend on the floor, or their RA to arrange for someone to pick up their meals from the SDR.

Your hyflex classes allow you to continue taking your classes online.

Roommates of Sick Students

Yes, please call Health Service at (312) 329-4417 to make an appointment or to speak to a nurse prior to visiting.

If you live on campus, you are expected to attend classes in person. Faculty may establish and enforce attendance policies.

If you are a remote learner, your faculty will send you the Zoom link for your classes.

If you are a commuter student, you may attend class in person or Via Zoom. Please contact your professor with your preferred method of attending class.

Wearing a mask indoors is encouraged but not required.

Move-In Day is back to normal.

New Student Orientation is back to normal, with the addition of some of the sessions being available virtually to accommodate new students who are studying remotely. Questions can be directed to studentlife@moody.edu.

A Hyflex or hybrid-flexible class offers its content both in the classroom and online via Zoom and through Canvas, Moody’s learning management system. A Moody Online class only offers its content online in Canvas through an asynchronous format, which means you are not required to be online in the class on a particular day or time.

Yes, the Student Resource Center (which includes Peer Tutoring and the Writing Center) provides both in-person and online services whenever possible. Questions can be directed to accommmodationservice@moody.edu.

Yes, Chicago undergraduate students will continue to have access to the CTA U-Pass while classes are in session. Questions can be directed to student.programs@moody.edu.

Hyflex classes will proceed as scheduled on their days and times in Moody campus classrooms. Students who are not in the classroom can join live via Zoom. Students will be in the classroom or connected online to the live classroom experience. There will also be content on the class website offered through Canvas, Moody’s learning management system.

Yes. We will continue to respect the health and safety of both students and the people they serve and will adjust as needed. Questions can be directed to pcm@moody.edu.

Yes. PCM requirements remain in place for all Chicago Undergraduate remote and on-campus students. The modality may include in-person or remote.

Housing processes and assignments have returned to normal. Please refer to your housing portal for housing details. Questions can be directed to housing@moody.edu.

The process for requesting housing accommodations remains the same. Please email accommodationservice@moody.edu with any questions.

New Student Move-In Instructions:

New students are invited to move in on the designated dates from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

Returning Student Move-In Instructions:

Returning students may move in on designated dates. If you have any questions about the move-in form, please email housing@moody.edu  

Residence Life will continue to include experiences like social activities, prayer meetings, and Life Groups.

Guests are permitted on campus; please sign in at a welcome desk. Overnight Guests must be registered at the front desks of Culbertson or Houghton hall in advance, and there is a fee ($10 nightly for up to three nights) that the host will be charged.

No. Wearing masks is encouraged but not required.

If you were planning on living off-campus because you chose to utilize the hyflex model, but then wish to change your mind and study on campus, our response will depend on residence hall room availability. If you want to move off campus after the semester begins and continue your hyflex courses online, your room and board will not be prorated, because the campus will still be open.

Communication from Moody will generally address Chicago specifically, and you should expect the Michigan campus (including the Detroit Durfee classroom location) to follow those guidelines, except where the state of Michigan restrictions are stricter. MTS Michigan is not requiring students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Masks are encouraged but not required. CDC guidelines, along with state and county guidelines, will continue to be monitored. 

Contact the MTS Michigan office at (734) 207-9581 or amber.tucker@moody.edu for further directions if you experience COVID-19 symptoms, test positive for COVID-19, or come into close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19. You will be given directions about your ability to be on campus and your course options at that point.

Student Life activities have returned to normal operations. This includes the reopening of the student lounge, missions and ministry fairs, along with other corporate social and library-operated gatherings. New Student Orientation will return to an in-person environment.

Chapels will return from 5:15 - 5:45 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday or Thursday (depending on the schedule). These in-person gatherings are strongly recommended for all students.

Counseling will be provided this fall through the Michigan Campus Counseling Clinic.

Detailed COVID-19 protocol for Moody Aviation can be located through your CANVAS dashboard under the COVID-19 training course. Moody Aviation’s COVID-19 Safety Manual may be viewed through this course and will be updated as necessary following guidance from the CDC and the State of WA. In addition, you can visit the State of Washington website for updates at https://coronavirus.wa.gov/.

We are utilizing a highly flexible (Hyflex) approach to learning for most classroom-based courses, allowing you to attend classes in person, online via Zoom, or asynchronously accessing course videos in Canvas (course link will be in Canvas for all classes). This learning model will allow us to continue to deliver classroom teaching, even if a resurgence of COVID-19 becomes a challenge. Maintenance and flight labs are available only via in-person attendance.

The Moody Bible Institute does not require students to receive the COVID-19 vaccine and leaves this sensitive choice to you as an individual. We ask that you bring this matter in prayer before the Lord and consider wisely the pros and cons of becoming fully vaccinated or not based upon your personal health needs as well as the health of the community. Vaccinated individuals will be permitted to avail themselves of the reduced restrictions below after providing confirmation of vaccination or a certificate of attestation to Moody Aviation. Employees must provide proof of 1) vaccination, or 2) approved exemption.

Are masks required on the Spokane campus?

Masks are encouraged but not required. CDC guidelines, along with state and county guidelines, will continue to be monitored. 

No, social distancing is not required.

A negative COVID-19 PCR test for unvaccinated individuals within 72 hours of your first class is encouraged, but not required to return to campus. If you have traveled internationally, a negative COVID-19 test is required prior to your return to Moody Aviation as well as a 7-day quarantine. If you experience COVID-like symptoms please get tested immediately and communicate with Mike Wilson, michael.wilson@moody.edu and Garry Barkman, garry.barkman@moody.edu.

Vaccinated or unvaccinated individuals who experience COVID-19 symptoms, test positive for COVID-19, or come into close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19, will be given directions in regard to being on campus and course options.

As a student at Moody Aviation, you agree to abide by the quarantine protocol that is established by Moody Aviation. Those who think they may have or know they have COVID-19, as well as unvaccinated individuals who have had close contact with someone with COVID-19, will be directed to quarantine for at least 10 days from the onset of symptoms and be symptom and fever-free without medication for at least 24 hours prior to entering Moody Aviation facilities.

New Student Orientation (NSO) will be offered in-person at Moody Aviation. Some of the orientation will be available virtually to accommodate those who might not be able to attend in-person.

Chapels will be offered in person. Chapel attendance is required and will meet on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 12:00 – 12:30 pm.

PCM is offered in partnership with local churches following Washington state guidelines.

Moody Aviation partners with the Genesis Institute and local churches to provide counseling options for students.

If you are traveling to campus from within the U.S., you need to follow the guidelines and current status of the Chicago Emergency Travel Advisory Order at the time of your travel.

If you are traveling to campus from outside the U.S., you need to follow the guidelines and current status of the Chicago Emergency Travel Advisory and the CDC's travel restrictions.

All guests on campus are required to follow the travel guidance that applies to them, whether they are traveling from within the U.S. or internationally.
