Gary D. Chapman Chair
of Marriage, Family Ministry, and Therapy at Moody Theological Seminary and Graduate School
The Gary D. Chapman Chair of Marriage, Family Ministry, and Therapy at Moody Theological Seminary and Graduate School is the first endowed Chair in Moody Bible's history. The endowment was given and named for Moody alum and best-selling author, Dr. Gary Chapman. Dr. Chapman, along with his wife of 45 years, Karolyn, established the Chair to provide a voice for marriage and family throughout Moody Bible Institute.
Dr. Chapman's own life experiences, plus more than forty years of pastoring and marriage counseling, led him to publish his first book in the Love Language series, The 5 Love Languages®: How to Express Heartfelt Commitment to Your Mate. He is the author of numerous other books published by Moody Publishers/Northfield Publishing. He also hosts two nationally syndicated radio programs, A Love Language Minute and Building Relationships with Dr. Gary Chapman.
Focus areas for the chair include:
- Teaching courses in counseling, marriage, and family at Moody Theological Seminary
- Guest lecturing in the undergraduate school's Marriage and Family course
- Serving as a regular voice for marriage and family on Moody Radio programming and through Moody Publishers books
In May 2019, Dr. Deborah Gorton accepted the Gary D. Chapman Chair of Marriage, Family Ministry, and Therapy at Moody Theological Seminary and Graduate School. As the chair, Dr. Gorton will direct a program to train the next generation of marriage, family pastors, and counselors.
